Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. HVAC System Operations, Maintenance & Repairs
  • Oversee and perform complex repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting on all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) systems across the hotel property.
  • Maintain central cooling towers, water-cooled/air-cooled chillers, AHUs, FCUs, packaged units, split-type air conditioners, and kitchen refrigeration equipment (walk-in freezers, chillers, ice machines).
  • Perform technical tasks including refrigerant charging (R-22, R-410A, R-32, R-134a), leak testing, brazing/soldering, compressor overhauls, motor/blower replacements, and electrical controls troubleshooting.
  • Conduct regular chemical cleaning, filter replacements, and coil washing for all air handling and fan coil equipment.
2. Team Leadership & Daily Work Allocation
  • Supervise, schedule, and assign daily job orders to junior AC Technicians, shift technicians, and third-party HVAC maintenance contractors.
  • Monitor guestroom air conditioning complaints (e.g., poor cooling, water leaks, noisy units) and ensure rapid response times to maintain guest satisfaction scores.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians on technical skills, electrical safety, refrigerant recovery protocols, and hotel engineering SOPs.
3. Energy Efficiency, Monitoring & System Optimization
  • Monitor central chiller plant performance, chilled water temperatures, water pressure levels, and power consumption daily to optimize energy usage.
  • Work closely with the Building Management System (BMS) operators to balance air flow, room temperatures, and operational schedules across public areas, ballrooms, and guest floors.
  • Implement proactive energy-saving initiatives (e.g., optimizing temperature set-points, cleaning condenser coils) to reduce the hotel's utility expenses.
4. Inventory, Compliance & Safety Management
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels of refrigeration gases, spare parts (compressors, thermostats, capacitors, fan motors, valves), copper tubing, and specialized HVAC tools.
  • Requisition parts and equipment through the Engineering Purchasing Staff, evaluating technical specifications for replacements.
  • Enforce strict compliance with safety regulations set by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-OSHC), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and environmental laws on refrigerant management (DENR-EMB guidelines).

Position Requirements in the Philippines:

1. Education
  • Vocational/Technical diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (RAC), or a Bachelor’s degree/undergrad in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
2. Certification
  • TESDA RAC Servicing NC II or NC III (Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Servicing) is highly preferred or mandatory; Licensed Mechanical Engineer (RME) is a strong advantage for 4- and 5-star hotels.
3. Experience
  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience in HVAC-R maintenance, with at least 1–2 years in a senior or lead technician role within a hotel, resort, commercial high-rise building, or mall complex.
4. Technical Expertise
  • Deep knowledge of central chiller operations, BMS control systems, VRF/VRV multi-split systems, electrical wiring diagrams, and environmental safety rules regarding refrigerants.
5. Physical Stamina
  • Ability to work in tight mechanical spaces, climb ladders, lift heavy machinery/compressors (up to 25–30 kg), and withstand hot machinery room environments.
6. Shift Flexibility
  • Willingness to work on rotating shift schedules, including night shifts, weekends, holidays, and remain on-call for emergency.
